Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C. is proud to announce that, for the fifth year in a row, its Appellate practice group has been named Appellate Litigation Department of the Year by the New Jersey Law Journal as part of its New Jersey Legal Professional Excellence Awards 2022.

“To be honored with the Appellate Litigation Department award for the fifth year in a row is immensely gratifying to me and, I have no doubt, a great source of pride to all of the lawyers and staff at our firm,” remarked Michael S. Stein, firm Chair and Managing Partner. “We are humbled by the New Jersey Law Journal’s recognition of the important appellate work we are doing both for our commercial clients and through the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center.”

The firm’s appellate practice group, widely recognized as one of the strongest and most sophisticated in the region, regularly handles high-profile appeals for clients large and small, before the state and federal appellate courts in New Jersey and New York.

In crafting briefs and preparing for oral arguments, the department draws on the vast experience of a former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice and a former Presiding Judge of the Appellate Division. The Honorable Gary S. Stein (Ret.) joined the firm after serving as an Associate Justice on the New Jersey Supreme Court for more than 17 years. The Honorable Ellen L. Koblitz (Ret.) joined the firm in 2020 after serving as a Judge on New Jersey’s Appellate Division for 10 years, including the last 2 years as Presiding Judge. Before she was appointed to the Appellate Division, Judge Koblitz served as a trial court judge in New Jersey Superior Court in the Chancery, Criminal, Family, and Special Civil Parts for more than 17 years.

In addition to representing clients on appeal in State and Federal Courts, the department’s lawyers and retired judges are routinely retained by other firms to prepare lawyers for Appellate and Supreme Court oral arguments, to assist in the preparation of briefs and Petitions for Certification, and to consult generally on appellate issues.

The honorees will be recognized at the New Jersey Law Journal’s gala, scheduled for September 29, 2022.
