Pashman Stein Celebrates “Savor Our Stories” DEIB Initiative
Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, P.C. is proud to celebrate “Savor Our Stories,” a firm-wide initiative spearheaded by Valerie Jules McCarthy, Esq., Chair of the firm’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Committee, and the firm’s DEIB Committee Members. Rooted in the belief that food is one of the most universal ways we share who we are, the initiative was created to foster a deeper sense of belonging across the firm by inviting colleagues to share the dishes and the stories that connect them to their heritage.
What began as a firm potluck celebrating the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and traditions of our colleagues has since grown into the creation of the firm’s first-ever cookbook. The cookbook brings together more than 20 homemade recipes contributed by colleagues across practice groups and offices, representing cultures and traditions from around the world. Each recipe is paired with the personal memories and stories behind the dish, from family gatherings and holiday traditions to the everyday meals that shaped contributors' lives.
Highlighting the firm’s deep family connection to the project, the creative direction was led by college student Gisel Domingo Calulo (Barnard ‘30), daughter of one of the firm’s DEIB Committee Members, whose artistic vision helped capture the spirit of “Savor Our Stories.” The project has brought our firm community together in a meaningful way, building connections that extend beyond the office. More than a cookbook, "Savor Our Stories" reflects the firm’s commitment to making diversity and inclusion a lived experience — not just a policy — and has set the stage for future initiatives that celebrate the people behind the practice.
