CJ Griffin and James W. Boyan III Named Members of the Firm

CJ Griffin and James W. Boyan III have been named members of Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C., in Hackensack, NJ.  Ms. Griffin joined the firm in November of 2012 and Mr. Boyan joined the firm in November of 2013.

Griffin is currently a litigator in the Access to Public Records Practice at Pashman Stein, where she represents online and print media entities, businesses, and individuals in lawsuits to gain access to public records under the Open Public Records Act.  She has authored numerous articles on LGBT workplace issues and was a legal intern for the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights, which investigates and prosecutes claims of discrimination.  Griffin has also authored amicus briefs on issues such as student bullying, the unconstitutional criminalization of profanity, the scope of Miranda rights, and other criminal procedure issues.

Griffin, a resident of Jersey City, NJ, earned her B.S. from SUNY-Empire State College in 2005 and received her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law in 2009.  During law school, she was Research Editor for the Rutgers Law Review and published a note on the Law Against Discrimination’s gender identity protections.  Following law school, she clerked for the Honorable Ariel A. Rodriguez, P.J.A.D. (2009-2010).   She is currently the Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the ACLU of New Jersey and serves on the Young Lawyer’s Advisory Board of the New Jersey Law Journal.  Griffin is also actively involved in the New Jersey State Bar Association, currently serving as Immediate Past Chair of the LGBT Rights Section and a member of the Amicus Committee.

Boyan is a litigator in the Employment & Labor and Litigation practices.  He focuses his practice on employment law and complex commercial litigation. Boyan regularly advises clients on federal, state and local employment laws.  He also defends clients in connection with governmental audits, inspections and investigations.  He also devotes a portion of his practice to the defense of workers’ compensation claims.

Boyan earned a B.A. in history from Colgate University, cum laude, in 2002.  He received a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, magna cum laude, in 2006.  He is currently pursuing an L.L.M. degree in taxation with a focus on employee benefits from New York University School of Law. During law school, he served as a Senior Editor of the Seton Hall Law Review and drafted a note on the enforceability of employment arbitration agreements.  Boyan was also inducted into the Order of the Coif.  Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Katharine S. Hayden, U.S.D.J. of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. 

Boyan is a life-long resident of Bergen County who serves on the advisory board of CASA for Children of Bergen County – an organization that advocates for abused and neglected children.
