Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C. Honored with Courage in Law Award by the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice
Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C. received the Courage in Law Award by the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice at its Fighting & Building Gala, held on October 20 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey. According to the Institute, the event recognized outstanding leaders and organizations who exemplify the courage and vision required to Fight & Build in these times.
Pashman Stein was proud to receive this award alongside fellow honorees:
- Jenner & Block LLP and WilmerHale/WilmerHale Partner Debo Adegbile
- Newark Mayor Ras Baraka
- Ryan Haygood, President & CEO, Southern Poverty Law Center and former President & CEO, New Jersey Institute for Social Justice
“It is especially meaningful to be honored by the Institute after having had the opportunity to work alongside them over the past few years to advance their social justice initiatives,” said Michael S. Stein, chair and managing partner of Pashman Stein. “We are also deeply honored to be recognized alongside Mayor Baraka and Ryan Haygood, whose work has had such an important impact on the pursuit of social justice. It is a particular privilege to stand alongside WilmerHale and Jenner & Block, two of only four law firms that, when faced with an existential crisis, chose principle over profit and chose to defend democracy and the rule of law.”
Throughout its history, Pashman Stein has been committed to leaning in and working on important public interest issues and high-impact pro bono matters, reflecting its attorneys’ belief that lawyers have both the privilege and obligation to advance the public good. The establishment of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center in 2019 reflects that commitment. Through the Center, attorneys at Pashman Stein have participated in this region’s most significant public interest lawsuits and landmark appellate court cases, remaining at the forefront of issues such as government transparency, free speech, defending democracy and the rule of law, due process, voting rights, criminal justice, and the integration of the state’s public schools.
Most recently, through the Stein Public Interest Center, Pashman Stein worked alongside the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice and a coalition of civil rights organizations in litigation opposing the U.S. Department of Justice's effort to obtain the sensitive personal identifying information of millions of New Jersey voters.
