CJ Griffin, a partner in the Media Law practice quoted in nj.com article, “The OPRA law hasn’t been updated since 9/11. Let’s fix it.” The article explains the New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act has not been changed since 2002. Senator Loretta Weinberg has filed another OPRA reform bill for the new legislative session to fix some of these flaws.

Attorney C.J. Griffin of Pashman Stein in Hackensack, an expert in public records law, put it this way: “Remove the fee-shift, and it would absolutely gut OPRA. Agencies would be able to unlawfully deny requests, and know there's no consequence for doing so because very few lawsuits will ever be brought.”
