CJ Griffin Quoted Bathroom Spying Case Article
CJ Griffin, director of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C., was quoted in Courthouse News Service article, “Building Owner Fights Liability for Peeping Janitor.”
The article reports on Griffin’s oral argument before the New Jersey Supreme Court on January 21, 2020 in a case where more than 60 women sued for privacy violations relating to secret cameras that were placed into the bathroom stalls of an office building. Griffin argued this pro bono case on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey, which argued that the Court should adopt a standard that reflects the realities of modern technology and that does not re-victimize women by forcing them to watch video footage from the cameras to identify themselves.
Appearing as a friend of the court, attorney CJ Griffin said a system of forcing women to study footage of victims for their own likeness violates their privacy all over again.
“All of the women, whether they found their images on the video or not, are legitimate in feeling violated and victimized and embarrassed and humiliated,” said Griffin, a partner at Pashman Stein law firm.
