CJ Griffin Interviewed by News 12 New Jersey’s “Kane In Your Corner” Regarding Attorney General’s Office Use of Force Database
CJ Griffin, partner and director of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center, recently discussed the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General’s use of force database in a segment with News 12 New Jersey’s “Kane In Your Corner.” The segment discusses how a Kane In Your Corner investigation found that there are serious problems with the accuracy of the database. Since the state began publishing data, about one in four uses of deadly force are missing from the database. Griffin, a well-known advocate for government transparency, says the investigation raises important questions.
“If the deaths are missing, which are the ones that are really high profile, it really makes me question how many others are missing,” Griffin says.
Griffin argues it’s vital for the data in those records to be complete because, “ultimately, that database is what history is. We'll look at that and say…there were a certain number of uses of force, and it becomes the truth. And so therefore you want the data to be accurate.”
