CJ Griffin Co-Counsels Appellate Win Strengthening New Jersey Tenant Protections

CJ Griffin, partner and director of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C., recently served as co-counsel with Volunteer Lawyers for Justice in a significant New Jersey Appellate Division win in Fairkings Partners, LLC v. Daniels. The court issued a published decision ruling that tenants facing eviction can meet their payment obligation by paying only the amount listed in the Judgment for Possession, rather than additional rent that accrues afterward. Griffin worked alongside VLJ Managing Attorney Allison Nolan to successfully argue for a tenant-friendly interpretation of the Fair Eviction Notice Act’s Stack Amendment, a decision that strengthens housing stability and reduces financial uncertainty for tenants across New Jersey.
