Dillon J. McGuire

Dillon McGuire is a partner in the firm’s Criminal Defense, Governmental & Internal Investigations, and Securities Regulatory Enforcement & Litigation practice groups. Dillon focuses on high-stakes federal investigations and prosecutions, criminal matters in state and municipal courts, and representing clients before the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the New Jersey Bureau of Securities. Clients turn to Dillon for assistance in navigating the complexities of the criminal justice and regulatory process, appreciating his dedication to keeping clients fully informed of every stage in the process and his passion in vigorously defending his clients’ constitutional rights. He has argued several cases before the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division, and the Supreme Court of New Jersey.

Dillon’s experience with criminal matters includes defending individuals and companies against allegations of securities fraud, insurance fraud, health care fraud, tax evasion, bank and mortgage fraud, money laundering, and both federal and state grand jury investigations. Additionally, Dillon has represented clients accused of aggravated assault, murder, theft, sexual offenses, drug offenses, and state parole violations, as well as municipal court matters.

With each of his clients, Dillon thoughtfully pursues all avenues to test the State’s evidence, including through independent investigation, and files any motions necessary to protect his clients’ constitutional rights. Through strategic motion practice, Dillon aims to expose weaknesses in the State’s investigation, often compelling prosecutors to review the weaknesses in their case, which can make all the difference between a successful defense and a conviction.  

Dillon is also committed to advancing social justice and protecting the rights of the criminally accused through his pro bono work with the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, preparing appellate briefs and appearing before the New Jersey Appellate Division and Supreme Court in numerous cases on behalf of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers-New Jersey (ACDL-NJ), as amicus curiae.  Of note, Dillon has represented amici curiae organizations in New Jersey Supreme Court cases establishing important rights for medical marijuana patients. This work has led to Dillon being named recipient of the 2023 Distinguished New Lawyer Pro Bono Award by the New Jersey State Bar Association and being included in the 2022 "Insider 100: Cannabis Power List."

Prior to joining the firm, Dillon earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Rutgers Law School, and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. While attending Rutgers Law School, Dillon was selected for a coveted fellowship with the Eagleton Institute of Politics and worked as a legislative aide in the non-partisan Office of Legislative Services. Following law school, Dillon served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Margaret M. Foti, P.J.Cr., and then for the Honorable Robert J. Gilson, J.A.D., in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division.
