Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C. is pleased to announce that Janie Byalik and Matthew A. Smuro have been elevated to partner, effective January 29, 2020.

Speaking on the promotions, the managing partner, Michael Stein commented:

Janie joined the firm’s Litigation practice as an associate in 2009. Janie’s practice focuses mainly on complex commercial and general civil litigation. She represents both individuals and large business entities and has experience in all aspects of commercial and business disputes, including breach of contract claims, business torts and disparagement actions, consumer fraud, false advertising, shareholder disputes, oppressed minority shareholder actions, actions for breach of non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, and breach of fiduciary duty claims.  In addition, Janie has significant appellate experience and has argued before state and federal appellate courts. She is also a member of the firm’s Women’s Leadership Committee, and the Hiring Committee.

Prior to joining Pashman Stein, Janie was an associate in the Litigation Department at Latham & Watkins LLP, where she practiced securities litigation, professional liability, complex commercial litigation, and white-collar criminal defense.

Janie is admitted to the Bars of New Jersey and New York She received her B.S. from Rutgers University in 2003, and her J.D., magna cum laude, from New York Law School in 2006.

Matt joined the firm’s Family Law group as counsel in 2018. He concentrates his practice on family and matrimonial law, and represents clients in all phases of litigation, arbitration and mediation.  He serves his clients in a wide range of matters including divorce, child custody, alimony, child support, equitable distribution of diversified business interests and assets, and domestic violence issues.  Matt also is a qualified family law mediator and has successfully argued before the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division. In 2018, Matt was named a “Monmouth County Top Lawyer” by Monmouth Health & Life Magazine. Prior to joining the firm, Matt served as a judicial law clerk to The Honorable Eugene A. Iadanza, P.J.F.P., where he also became a Certified Mediator of Special Civil Part cases. While in law school, he served as a clerk for the South Carolina House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, where he managed new legislation brought before the Family Law Subcommittee.  Matt is admitted to the Bars of New Jersey and New York. He received his B.A. from Clemson University in 1999, and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2002.
